  • Iasos : Inter-Dimensional Music - LP (Fact Of Being, 2020)

  • In 1975 Iasos, published his first work "Inter-Dimensional Music" which during the years became an absolute classic of a new age and ambient music. This is probably a first "new age" album ever released. In addition, a year after in 1976 Steven Halpern, with his well-known masterpiece "Spectrum-Suite" cemented the existence of style / Being unique, the music lays at the crossroads of ambient, new age, psychedelic, prog, and space music. Recommended for fans of Peter Davison, Popol Vuh, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Steven Halpern, and Michael Stearns' early works / Now, after 45 years since first publishing the album available again on limited CD and VINYL in original artwork

  • Raison d’Être : Aprés Nous Le Déluge (Trinity Edition) - 2xCD Box (Infinite Fog Productions, 2019)

  • Comes in a 6-panel digipack / The dark, atmospheric and energetic mix of choirs, strings, various FX-sounds, heavy drums and tribal sections makes this the seed for the raison d’être sound trademark that begun with the album "Prospectus I" from 1993. Released in 1992 "Aprés Nous Le Déluge" became the first official output from raison d'être when it went available on the Cold Meat Industry subsidiary label Sound Source / There are three versions of "Aprés Nous Le Déluge" and now they have finally all been joined into one complete album release: the Trinity Edition. The original version released on cassette in 1992, first as a private demo tape and soon after slightly slimmed officially on the Cold Meat Industry sub label Sound Source, had many flaws in the recording quality due to bad equipment and poor skills. The remixed version from 1995 was an attempt to make things better. It was a try to recreate the whole album but the mission failed. Only about half of the tracks was possible to recreate and the second half were just the original version treated with equalisation and reverb. Also, many sounds on the remixed tracks were missing thus replaced with new sounds. In 2012 there was a new more serious attempt to recreate the whole album. The intention with the reduxed version was to recreate the energy and feeling of the original version but still making it well balanced and clear in the mix

  • Zero Kama : Zero Kama - 3xLP Box (Infinite Fog Productions, 2020)

  • Remastered compilation housed in a deluxe collector's boxset / Zero Kama was an experimental music project founded by Zoe DeWitt in 1983. The first release of Zero Kama was the title V.V.V.V.V., recorded for the Nekrophile Rekords cassette compilation The Beast 666. In 1984 followed the cassette release of the album The Secret Eye of L.A.Y.L.A.H., which is commonly regarded as one of the key albums of the industrial-subgenre 'ritual'. The fact that all instruments used for this recording were exclusively made from human bones and skulls, its elusive musical style, the implied occult symbolism as well as the short-time existence of Zero Kama, whose backgrounds remained unknown for a long time, have been contributing to the cult status of this project until now / Infinite fog Productions presents an anthology release of Zero Kama. The first time ever, everything recorded by the project released as one set on limited CD, VINYL and CASSETE. Recordings transferred from original tapes, carefully mastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios and Micro Majong at Micro Majong Studio. Designed by Cold Graves

When secret services like KGB, Mossad or CIA would consider some musicians as seriously dangerous for their agenda, because of artist’s influence on audience’s minds. When artist’s names would be an inspiration and a symbol of fight for freedom / It was also a time when artists would not censor themselves and their position in fear of being obstructed and hunted by mob for political or any other incorrectness. When artistic freedom to honestly express their subjective views, no matter how harsh or extremely reactive the form of expression could be, was more valuable than any possible concerns or fear to hurt anyone’s feelings. When hurting feelings would mean that provocation reached it’s goal. When idea of speaking out their subjective truth had the highest value for artists, as one of true meanings of art.It was a time when music was not safe. • Lino Capra Vaccina : Arcaico Armonico - LP (Dark Companion, 2016)

  • Handnumbered / Following his time in Aktuala, Lino Capra Vaccina published a seminal album in 1976, Antico Adagio, recently removed from the clutches of the vultures of rare disk from Die Schachtel. A few years after, another unmissable gem waiting for future reprints. Back to the studio after the incredible success of the reprint of Antico Adagio, Lino wanted to continue on the path laid out in his historical album: compositions, intuitions, emotions that were maturing for years, resting as the like of a good Borgogna wine, now ready to be shared with a wider audience. Also, for this new work, to his percussion, gong, tablas, bells, vibraphone, cymbals, dishes, and strange instruments natives Lino did not want to apply any "trick" / All the sounds you'll hear in this extraordinary journey are strictly acoustic, no any kind of electronics are involved. • Biosphere : Cirque - 2xCD (Biophon, 2016)

  • Cirque - originally released in 2000 - was Biosphere's first album for the UK label Touch. This new re-issue comes with a 6-track bonus album and new artwork / Mojo (UK): Fourth full album from ambient pioneer. Coming to prominence with 1992's Microgravity - which along with the first couple of Aphex/Polygon Window CDs, defined the genre ambient - Geir Jenssen as Biosphere has made three of the '90s' best albums, culminating with last year's near beatless Substrata. The idea - as it always was thanks to Eno's On Land - is music as environment (reflecting, creating): working from his base in Tromso, Arctic Norway, Jenssen offers a polar, Apollonian exploration of the human psyche / Cirque is a perfectly constructed 47-minute sequence: cold clarity up against real depth of field, synth cycles dissolving into sudden moments of sonic revelation that sound like a waking dream - try the first 20 seconds of Black Lamb and Grey Falcon. (And if you think that's pretentious - your loss). Inspired by the story of a young American, Chris McCandless, who walked alone into the Alaskan wilderness and perished, Cirque balances the tightrope between warmth and unease, resolving into a moon melody that leaves you a peace

Produced in pro tools with GRM plug-ins, this record displays a series of sharp impulsions, reputations and percussive audio attacks on the sense. Focusses on extreme panning to induce the listening into another auditory world / La ba-balle du chien-chien à la me-mère [The ball of the old lady's dog] (2001) is a playful take on the way that we speak in a childlike way to pets. A brief narrative at the start invites the listener into this "pet speak" scene, with the sound of footsteps and chatter. These gradually crescendo and morph into a cacophonous swirling explosion. Deux Dents Dehors [Two teeth sticking out] (2007) is a pun on Bernard Parmegiani’s piece Dedans Dehors [Inside Outside] (1977), composed for his birthday / It takes snippets of lively vernacular and processes these into complex patterns of unintelligible and unrecognisable speech sounds, in sustained or percussive sequences. Tiny details in the sounds are important and what might appear to be insignificant, dull or uneventful is often salient. Acute, obsessive listening brings these elements to the fore / "Can a music made with the modern tools of digital music and contemporary production sound eerily as if created with the same equipment that Stockhausen, Henri and Berio all availed themselves of in the radio studios of the 50s and 60s – and yet sound bright and fresh to the ears of today's listeners? Robert Worby shows us how, with Factitious Airs." — Carl Stone

  • Masonna : All Live Recording At My Room - LP (Urashima, 2020)

  • All Live Recording At My Room have been released in 1989 on Coquette, and now return for the first time in astonishing vinyl format fully remastered! The tracks were recorded live, at home ,with no mixing and no overdubs. Album is full of very rough harsh noise that’s mostly made up of lots of distorted screaming. This early work is very loud, noisy, and has lots of angry energy. The distortion and effects on the vocals are top notch, they in combination with his awesome screaming create a complete audio assault. Divided into two parts of fifteen minutes each that focuses an electrically overcharged universe, punctuating the electric and vocal sonorous power with some quite moments and brief interruptions, conferring a very particular dynamic to these tracks / Controlled, gorgeous, and absolutely intense, encountered with distance, Masonna’s stunning All Live Recording At My Room stands with the absolute best of its era, and outsteps a great deal more. Chaos and noise, while direct and at ease with its own voice, it’s nearly impossible to not fall in love with this record once heard. An absolute revelation, reemerging at long last. Masonna is an emblematic figure of Japanoise, who shines by a personal approach and an immediately recognizable style. A zenith in the noisy Japanese landscape

  • Yoshio Machida, Call Lyall : Premeditation - 10" (By The Bluest Of Seas, 2020)

  • Deluxe edition in gatefold cover with 8 pages photographic booklet / In the early 2000s, Tokyo's SuperDeluxe was a meeting point for many experimental musicians, both international and Japanese. This duo sprung from a live collaboration at the venue in 2006, where Machida was experimenting with processed steel pan and Lyall was largely performing using a tabletop guitar setup with a range of electronics. Many subsequent encounters were heavily experimental, ranging from densely layered noise music to sound collage / Through the years, the collaboration shifted to a more tonal approach, with standard tunings and stronger compositional elements. Both musicians have a deep interest in traditional improvisational forms, so there was a natural evolution towards structural ideas—based on minimal scalar patterns—as the sound became more acoustic. The most recent instrumentation explores the unusual combination of steel pan, slit drums and banjo, while also delving deeper into the characteristics of the instruments themselves

  • Subjectivation is the new solo album from Swiss artist Antoine Chessex. Produced by Rekem Records (GR/UK) and Fragment Factory (DE), it features some of his most direct and developed work to date / Using material from solo live performances in San Francisco, Berlin, Zürich and London between 2010 and 2015, the sides of this record distill the touchstones of Antoine's sonic language into two sharp and forceful statements. The first side opens with a formidable tour-de-force, a developing field of distortion in which tenor saxophone adds on a metal-tinged sludgy tonality, wedged through dense masses of sound / Following are some more subtly executed sonics, documented at London's Café Oto, on the second side. Here it is Chessex's multiphonics taking centre stage, a rapid-fire of voices from the horn that gets enveloped in a back-and-forth between electroacoustic structures, psychoacoustics, and pure tone. Connecting the two sides is a meticulous attention to the different levels that operate within sound, and a compositional hand that favours intensity and depth, making this one of Chessex's most definitive statements

His last album was 2007's Steingarten, while his only major releases since then have been a trilogy of 12"s (the Waldgeschicten series in 2011) and a one-off collaboration with Roll The Dice in 2012. So it’s fair to say that Wald, Betke's first studio album in eight years, carries with it a weight of expectation. Billed as a single, 50-minute piece of music split into three acts, Wald is inspired by Betke's walks through the Isar Valley and the forests of the Alps / Still spiritually aligned to dub, the music is more freeform and three-dimensional than ever before, culminating in a psychedelic-synthetic final act. "Fluxxy" leads on the package, embracing STL's signature style via, dusty analogue drums, choppy dub stabs, penetrating low end flutters and airy atmospherics before "Dub Plus" lays focus on a stripped-back, perfectly balanced drum groove, hazy field recordings and bubbling chord delays and bell chime synths. "Magic Thing" then rounds out the release, fusing fm synth melodies and gritty bass stab sequences with thunderous subs and Laubner’s robust rhythmic style

From 1963 on he worked with Don Buchla on the development of the early synthesizer "Buchla Series 100" before moving to New York where the artist-in-residence at the newly established Tisch School Of The Arts of the New York University was enabled to set up his own studio. • Krokofant, Ståle Storløkken, Håker Flaten : Q - LP+CD (Rune Grammofon, 2019)

  • As David Fricke points out in his liner notes, this is not just another novelty guest-project, the Krokofant on "Q" is like a brand new band. In fact, all the involved are so happy with this album that there's bound to come more, with a bunch of new material already written. After three albums in a little over three years they felt a need to try something new, taking the band one step further. Especially Tom Hasslan, guitarist and main composer, felt an urge to expand the canvas and sonic possibilities of his writing and playing / Hasslan's tunes are perfect vehicles for keyboard player Ståle Storløkken (Elephant9, Supersilent, Terje Rypdal) to present the full scope of his playing; from sheer pastoral beauty to full on jazz skronk. The same can be said about Mathisen, who is given ample room for soloing. The tunes are rich in harmonic structures and melodic hooks, and with the distinctive sax/organ combination it's difficult not to occasionally think of Van der Graaf Generator in their prime / By introducing Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (The Thing, Scorch Trio, Atomic) on electric bass, work was lifted from Hasslan's shoulders and a "proper" rhythm section was born, Skalstad and Flaten instantly bonding. As Fricke also notes, ""Q" is their best album, the fullest expression to date of their original design - a drawing of the past forward - with a new strength in numbers"

  • Fire! Orchestra, Krzysztof Penderecki : Actions - LP (Rune Grammofon, 2020)

  • New reading and conduction by Mats Gustafsson. The first (and until now only?) recorded interpretation of Krzysztof Penderecki's Actions For Free Jazz Orchestra took place in 1971 at Donaueschingen and featured the New Eternal Rhythm Orchestra, assembled by Don Cherry for the occasion and conducted by the great Polish composer. That orchestra also consisted of 14 musicians, including international jazz heavyweights such as Kenny Wheeler, Peter Brötzmann, Thomasz Stanko, Terje Rypdal, Han Bennink and others / The new, extended reading by Mats Gustafsson and Fire! Orchestra was commissioned by the Sacrum Profanum festival in Kraków, Poland in 2018. The idea was to place this classic piece in a contemporary setting, with a new approach and a new body of sound. However, the original score was used as a platform for the new reading, connecting history with the present. A score in this context is most often of a graphic nature to present reference points, visualized on the sleeve by Kim Hiorthøy's cut-up adaption of Mats Gustafsson's score. It's also worth noticing that the instrumentation is more or less identical to that of 1971, the main difference being a tuba replacing one of the trombones. Finally, this new reading clocks in at 40 minutes, and is thus considerably longer than the 1971 version

  • Transparent vinyl / Absolutely barking-mad as always, ‘Quinto Quarto’ is the second release of this Italian Anti-Pop group that I have encountered, with the extremely peculiar ‘La Prima Volta’ being the first. Undeniably, this isn’t going to be to everyone’s palate; the Post-Punk guitars spliced with Jazz saxophone of ‘Natura Morta’, to the vaudeville of ‘Divino Amore’ are completely bonkers from start to finish. Even when Gustoforte turn the notch down on the No-Wave esque ‘Maliiana Settana, it’s all completely unhinged / Psychedelic and unrelenting, the only break the listener is given; is the brief respite of turning the record over, only to further encounter a torrent of sporadic torment. The vagina has returned to free souls of the dictatorship of the dance of the Father: patriarchs have been attempting to annihilate women’s sexuality since the dawn of time / All the sounds making up the songs have been obtained by rubbing a small microphone over Lola and Gloria’s vaginas, special sound receptors have recorded the beating of their uteruses, the pulsating sound of their inner and outer lips, the flow of their vaginal fluids / By mixing the sounds on their laptops, they have triggered a frenetic dance like the pulsating rhythm of life, dark and orgiastic like the secret of death. • Various Artists : Konstantin Raudive - The Voice of The Dead - LP (Sub Rosa, 2020)

  • For many, the first traces of the Raudive Tapes were in William Burroughs fictions and articles. The fact is, these mysterious magnetic tapes, which capture the voices of the dead, and were recorded by the baltic scientist Konstantin Raudive, are not a fiction but a reality (we are not here to judge their scientific objectivity). These tapes, as rare as Lovecraft's Necronomicon, are now in our archives / Dr Konstantin Raudive, a student of Carl Jung, was a Latvian psychologist who taught at the University of Uppsala, Sweden, before devoting the last ten years of his life to electronic voice phenomenon (EVP).He published in his book Breakthrough in 1971. His early collaborator F. Jurgenson, whom he met by the very beginning of 1965, awakened Dr. K.Raudive's interest in EVP research. Raudive spent endless hours for the thorough study of Jurgenson's books ("Voices from Space", 1964 and "Radio-Link with the Dead", 1967). From an overwhelming database (ranging about 72000 samples!), Raudive's mother seems to be statistically the most frequently reported contact personality. She usually addressed her son in the Latgalian dialect

His operational horizon reflects further cultural ideas and suggestions; not only the artifice between natural sounds and the programmed machine but also the intrusion of arabesque dreams and jungles contaminated by invading insects and mad pipers. • The connection with and love for Radio Centraal runs through Ultra Eczema’s veins. The Antwerp-based station has functioned as a voice for myriad local underground movements for nearly forty years. From its inception, architect and ex-Situationist Rudi Renson and restaurateur Roland Rom were a critical, hilarious, and provocative voice in its repertoire of weirdos, chiefly via the weekly RTVS (Radio & Television Salon) programme / Lots of ‘music’ was made within this show, largely enabled by its presenters’ revolving door policy of regularly inviting others to contribute or host: musician and artist George Smits, actionist and performer Jacques ‘Jack The Rapper’ Ambach, artist Jörgen Voordeckers, jazz saxophonist Mike Zinzen, aspiring philosopher and bass player Filip Baert, political activist Peter Terryn, troublemaker Jan ‘JAC’ Van Den Eynde, renaissance man Mark Meulemans, graphic designer Dominic Gregoire, fashion photographer Ronald Stoops, communist activist Leo Dierckx, feminist Ellen Verryt, translator and teacher Linda Greeve, biologist and Cassis Cornuta’s sole member Daniel Renders… You get the picture / This compilation is far from complete. • Around the turn of the century, a psychedelic fellow from Argentina – Miguel Sosa – swapped the grass for the rainy streets of Antwerp. Miguel lived in the long-standing Villa Delfia squat and played classical acoustic guitar pieces on the street to earn the necessary survival dough, winding down with a sustained assault of endless Moog dreambient at home / In no time and seemingly out of nowhere, he’d become a weirdo fixture in town — and ten years later he vanished just as swiftly. In the ensuing decade, we confess to have forgotten a little about Miguel’s music; it was so present in our lives that it was easy to take for granted / Then, a few monthsago, he sent us this mind-bending master of a record he had been working on for years. His essence seems to be etched into these pieces: filmic, dramatic, plastic-classical electronic music that could very well serve as the soundtrack to a documentary about this sweet Argentenian tripper. Tell Me’) is the duo’s most fully realised collaboration, an enchanting, complete world in which Yurchenko’s instrumentation and playfulness with form frames Nianio’s otherworldly soprano, recalling Liz Fraser steeped in contrapuntal melody and hymnal improvisation / Originally made available on a self-released cassette in 1996 (re-issued in 2017 by Ukraine’s Delta Shock label) where the album was twinned with ‘Lisova Kolekciya’ (re-issued on LP in 2017 by Skire) this is the debut release of ‘Znayesh Yak? • On this double album, the Albert Ayler Trio consisted of Ayler, bassist Torbjörn Hultcrantz and drummer Sune Spångberg; four dissonant songs from their live performance on 24 October 1962 would be issued on the Bird Notes label in Sweden as 'Something Different!!!!!!' and reissued overseas as the first edition of 'The First Recording'; it included a barely-recognisablerendition of showtune 'I'll Remember April,' an off-kilter take of Sonny Rollins' 'The Stopper' retitled 'Rollins' Tune,' and a wobbly cut of Miles Davis' 'Tune Up,' along with the original 'Free.' / The exceedingly rare 'Volume 2' was also issued on Bird Notes -at least in test pressings with photos of Ayler glued to the cover- comprised of 3 extended meditations of discord, namely blown mutations of showtunes 'Softly As In A Morning Sunrise' and 'I Didn't Know What Time It Was,' along with a growling cut of Count Basie's 'Good Bait.'

  • Joshua Abrams & Natural Information Society : Mandatory Reality - 2xLP (Eremite, 2019)

  • Clear vinyl repress / Setting aside (for the moment) the electric instrumentation of "Simultonality" (2017) & "Magnetoception" (2015), Joshua Abrams conceived "Mandatory Reality" for an eight-piece acoustic manifestation of NIS, consisting of himself on Guimbri, Lisa Alvarado - harmonium & gongs, Mikel Avery - tam-tam & gongs, Ben Boye - autoharp & piano, Hamid Drake - tabla & tar, Ben Lamar Gay - cornet, Nick Mazzarella - alto saxophone, & Jason Stein - bass clarinet / A 2 LP set, the album is comprised largely of two performances, both Joshua Abrams compositions, 24 & 40 minutes in length. While new to the band’s records, long duration pieces are familiar to those who’ve heard JA&NIS in concert in recent years, where elaboration on a single composition for an hour or more is not unusual

  • Highway : Highway - LP (Alternative Fox, 2019)

  • Alternative Fox present a reissue of Highway's self-titled album, originally released in 1975. Obscure Minnesota-based power trio Highway has a long and convoluted history / This resultant group's self-titled debut album was recorded at Westminster Studio, near Fort Dodge in neighboring Iowa, during a time when Highway was based in the tiny town of Ceylon, Minnesota; privately pressed in only 500 copies, it has since become a highly sought-after item for its unusual blend of melodic hard-rock lead guitar, psychedelic garage rock, and wistful, country-tinged blues rock / Although some fans and critics have compared the group to Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash, primarily because of the melodic and distortion-free lead guitar licks, the band has a sound all their own, especially since all three members provide vocals, as well as fierce instrumental licks, with furious drum rolls from Cammarata and Murphy and Bannister sometimes playing the same notes in unison

  • Jean Cohen-Solal : Captain Tarthopom - LP (Souffle Continu, 2018)

  • On the cover of his first album Flutes Libres, Jean Cohen-Solal boldly declared that "nothing can stop a flautist". While that statement may be up for debate, Cohen-Solal’s 1973 sophomore LP Captain Tarthopom goes about making a compelling case for the humble flute / He coaxes a great range of sounds and styles from his instrument - at times he overdubs harmonies on the Captain Beefheart-ish "Ludions", at others he lets the instrument wander over experimental dronescapes / Mentioned on the legendary Nurse With Wound list!

  • Reissue with obi and 16 pages booklet / Jacques Thollot was a French drummer who perfected an idiosyncratic style of playing that was most fully realised on "Quand le son devient aigu, jeter la girafe à la mer" ("when the sound gets high-pitched, throw the giraffe into the sea"). It's a strange collection of pieces, whose arrangements are often just based around drums and piano. This LP sounds like a cousin of krautrock, especially considering the odd drones and samples that are the backdrop to Thollot's playing

  • Meara O'Reilly : Hockets For Two Voices - 12" (Cantaloupe Music, 2019)

  • Meara O'Reilly’s Hockets for Two Voices is brief and broad, spanning just over ten minutes across seven parts. In its earliest versions, parts of Hockets were commissioned by Tauba Auerbach (a photo of whose sculpture adorns the jacket) for a performance at The Kitchen in NYC in 2016; and was performed and recorded in its entirety in Los Angeles in 2017-2018 / Hocketing is a demanding practice of sharing a single melody between many voices in alternating notes, characteristic of medieval European music but also present in indigenous folk traditions. O’Reilly approaches this technique from a childhood immersion in classical music, a young adulthood in the experimental and noise world, and a more recent return to the discipline of composing orchestral music / This synthesis is demonstrated with precision and singularity in Hockets, a playful and impressive expression of vocal dexterity joining mature musical traditions with a younger avant-garde and popular history of stereo panning, perception puzzling abstraction and psychoacoustic research pioneered by Albert Bregman, "who demonstrated how the limits of our perceptual processes can actively shape our experience of music." Written for two performers, O’Reilly sings both parts in this recording, a labor requiring one year to execute. The results are presented with care by Cantaloupe

  • Moondog : Moondog And His Friends - LP (Primitiv Sounds, 2018)

  • Originally released in 1953, this collection of very early Moondog pieces features the same tribal rhythmic impulse as his famed Prestige recordings, but there's an impressive line in chamber music running through these compositions: the B-side is dedicated to two suites for strings, which could easily pass for more traditional works were it not for the heavy bongo presence / Essentially though you can hear a sense of discipline, and a thorough working knowledge of conventional classical composition in Moondog's work, even if he ultimately chooses to subvert it. All this is further destabilised by slightly weirder excursions like 'Tree Frog - Be A Hobo', which fit into some odd percussion-centric take on what might loosely be termed as a 'song' / More idiosyncratic, entirely uncategorizable work from one of 20th century music's true mavericks

On their eponymous record the quartet deconstruct the folk musics of Japan / Core members Rie Nakajima and Keiko Yamamoto - the latter of which is a co-founder of London's celebrated Cafe OTO - coax an array of timbres from singing bowls, toys, balloons and the human body / Their sound is then bolstered by violin and percussion. The heaven-sent collaboration between Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer dissect and isolate myriad textures — snare hits and light brushes, snippets of reamed melody, a minimalist sensibility for what sends bodies racing — in the manner of auditory scientists / Could their closest resemblance be found in the archivists, perhaps? Throughout numbers like "Ohnesarg", "Flump" and prime specimen "Schalen Geschmack", Villalobos and Loderbouer compose from the prompt of history, attempting a recollection of the Europe underground through a fog of jazz

Opener "Arab Jerusalem" originally appeared on a 1996 7" - though that version ran to less than six minutes while the take here clocks in at more than twenty - while "Desert Gulag" hints at "Negev Gulag" from Jones' Farah Guerilla LP (also 1996) / As a whole, though, Lalique Gadaffi Handgrenade is an intriguing new addition to the Muslimgauze catalogue. • Fote : Same - LP (Robot, 2020)

  • Following the short-lived Truth Club with Trefor Goronwy (who later went on to work with This Heat and The Camberwell Now), Fote was formed in 1981 with the trio of Robert Haigh, Deborah Harding, and Trevor Reidy. Releasing two 12” EP’s along with one track featured on a split 7” with Truth Club, Fote’s entire studio recordings consisted of just 8 tracks / With angular constructs of post-punk, free-form improvisations, and wicked time signatures, these tracks shredded boundaries one can still hear to this day. These early foundations are also heard in much of Haigh’s later Sema compositions as well as Reidy’s motorik percussion with Nurse with Wound, Danielle Dax, and The Monochrome Set / Curiously, Harding’s vocal tensions and outright unhinged polarities in Fote sound like much of the exorcisms and brilliant psychodramas on many of Chrystal Belle Scrodd’s (Diana Rogerson) later solo albums. Cut at 45 rpm for maximum fidelity, including all 8 tracks, and featuring the original sleeve artwork by Deborah Harding. An absolutely essential document from the early 80s independent British post-punk scene

  • Clear vinyls housed in a six-panel gatefold cover that unfolds to reveal the graphic score of the album / Ending the decade of silence which followed more than ten years of remarkable, critically acclaimed activity by the partnership of veteran experimentalists, Luigi Archetti and Bo Wiget, the duo returns with what may be their most ambitious effort to date / Switzerland-based Luigi Archetti and Bo Wiget began collaborating in 1998, the fruits of which initially emerged as the critically heralded, three-part Low Tide Digitals series, released by Rune Grammofon between 2001 and 2009. Weltformat, like its predecessors, builds on decades of solo and collaborative efforts by its creators - Archetti with famed Krautrock pioneers, Guru Guru, among many others, and Wiget with Werner Lüdi, Taku Sugimoto, Tetuzi Akiyama, and others.Sculpted from the intricate tonal interventions and responses of Archetti on guitar, mandolin, and electronics, and Wiget on cello, electronics, and vocals, across the album’s four sides the duo constructs a remarkably diverse landscape in sound, folding touchstones of modern classical, free improvisation, minimalism, harsh noise, and ambient music, into a seamless, singular expanse

What would become an inimitable explosion of energy and vision from Japan heralded in the glory days of '90s alternative rock, death metal, and psychedelic synth music, Masonna surpassed all extremes with a full frequency violence that was as fast as it was psychedelic / Not once has any artist emerged with more intensity and focus in the history of noise. It was said onstage that Masonna has reduced the pure elements of classic rock, the guitar stack, the feedback, and the lead singer to an explosive few seconds of visceral feedback, metallic noise from the physical shaking and pressure of his fist around the shaker, processed through the self-described "harshtronics" and indeed ending in "exclamation!" Afterwards, they released two highly acclaimed and now out-of-print albums with "Muschelsammlung" and "Erinnerungen an Gesichter" and now Winter’s finally here with "Durch unser zugedecktes Tal" / The album evokes lyrically and sonically how people experience winter: from the joy of the first falling snow to the weariness of darkness and cold, from well-tried rituals to drive winter out to the relief of thawing and blooming snowdrops. “Durch unser zugedecktes Tal” is also a record about patience and hope. For the first time, Brannten Schnüre’s aesthetics are reminiscent of Christian beliefs; the idea of living a life pleasing to God is present in the final words cited on the record, a poem by German writer Hans Schiebelhuth that rounds up “Durch unser zugedecktes Tal” and leaves its listener behind in a solemn mood.
